"Treasuried" Day!

I am delighted to report that our learning today was
tops!

How often can you fit every subject in without opening a single book?!

(Perhaps a slight exaggeration)

We read chapter 19 of Genesis. The Little Bugs really dig this book of the Bible, and if anyone has some great ideas on how to act out the Bible as we read it, I could use practical ideas - I'm not strong in the drama suite (that's Molly's department). ;-P

Zachary counted by two's as I measured wheat berries into zip lock bags;

We read about Cinco de Mayo (Did you know it is NOT Mexico's Independence day? It's hardly even recognized in Mexico! Go figure. I'm from California, and it's a pretty big deal THERE, especially if you are in the goat business!)

We learned how to season cast iron, and the boys seasoned my new Dutch Oven for me!

We also got online and learned how to sprout wheat. Following that we had to try it for ourselves. (did you know just how healthful sprouted nuts, seeds and legumes are?)
(A later post).

Last but not least, we culminated our day with a project that has been anticipated for a while:
Painting the wooden "Treasury chests!" (as Clay calls them).
So her are some pictures of that fun adventure!

As you can see, they really got into it, and Little Sister was so good to sit and watch (The apple wedge wasn't a bribe, but it was effective!).

Wowwwwwzers you guys!!! Your "treasurie boxes" are the most beautiful ones I have laid my eyes upon! You really had a GREAT day creating today, didn't you?!
(And learning I might add!) Keep up the great work! Those boxes look like they will be perfect for keeping certain treasuries such as the diamonds you intend to find! Loved the alloted space cubby for each of the kids! Would seem to really help spill anxiety, ha! Love you all LOTS!!! Grama

The treasury boxes would have been a hit around here as well. Anything that has to do with painting/creating/crafting makes THE best day (for Bethany anyway)!
If we read books and did "projects" (as Beth calls them) all day for school, she would be a happy camper.
Unfortunately, mommy does not often make things quite that fun. :(

Thanks gals!

The cardboard boxes were for lack of newspaper lol! I'm not too much of a risk-taker when it comes to what I may have to clean up afterwards!!!

Sarah Jane,
I am ALL there! My dear new friend Courtney inspired me in this venture.
She said that doing a craft project with her little guys is a good way for her to give them a piece of her undivided attention.
She suggested buying a couple no-brainer prepackaged kits from Michaels (about a dollar each, and some have more than one inside).

Once we got to michael's, the Little Bugs were captivated by these little treasure boxes.
At the risk of sounding extravagant to some, and cheap to others, I will volunteer that they cost a dollar each.
To me, it was a small price to pay for an hour or two of creativity and fun that we could call "school"! ;-)
